Andy Warhol

Andy Warhol is known for his work in pop art.
Warhol was frequently bid-ridden as a child due to illnesses, but during this time he would listen to the radio, draw and collected photos of movie stars.
Warhol showed artistic talent from a young age and studied commercial art at the School of Fine Arts at Carnegie Institute of Technology in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania (now known as Carnegie Mellon University). He then moved to New York City and began a career in magazine and advertising. He gained fame in the 1950s for his ink drawings of shoe advertisements.
RCA Records hired Warhol, along with another freelance artist Sid Maurer to design album covers and promotional materials.

Warhol's first art gallery was at the Ferus Gallery of Los Angeles. This exhibtion marked the beginning of pop art. His first New York pop exhibit was hosted at Eleanor Ward's Stable Gallery in 1962. It included the works of Marilyn Diptych, 100 Soup Cans, 100 Coke Bottles and 100 Dollar Bills. During the 60s, Warhol became well known for his poortraits of celebrities, such as Marilyn Monroe, Elvis Presley, Troy Donahue, Muhammad Ali and Elizabeth Taylor.
